The African Democratic Congress, on May 5, 2026, in Nigeria, released a revised schedule for its 2026 primary elections and adjusted the cost of nomination forms, following consultations with party leaders, aspirants, and stakeholders across the country. The update was made public by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
Under the new plan, the sale of nomination forms will run from May 1 to May 4, 2026. Aspirants are expected to complete and submit their forms between May 6 and May 13, with the final submission date fixed for May 13. Screening of aspirants will take place on May 14 and May 15, while the results of the screening will be released on May 17.
Those who wish to challenge the outcome can submit appeals between May 18 and May 19, after which the final list of cleared aspirants will be published on May 20.
The party scheduled its primary elections for legislative positions, including State Houses of Assembly, House of Representatives, and Senate, for May 21.
Governorship primaries will follow on May 22, while the presidential primary is set for May 23. After the primaries, the party will hold a National Executive Committee meeting on May 25 and conclude with a Special National Convention on May 26.
Alongside the timetable, the party also reviewed the fees for nomination forms.
The presidential form is now fixed at ninety million naira, while governorship forms cost thirty million naira. Senate aspirants are to pay ten million naira, House of Representatives aspirants five million naira, and those seeking seats in State Houses of Assembly two million naira.
The party also maintained its support structure for certain groups, offering a fifty percent reduction for young aspirants between the ages of 18 and 35, and a twenty-five percent reduction for women and persons living with disabilities.
According to the party, the changes are aimed at improving participation and ensuring a smoother process ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The ADC advised all interested aspirants and party members to follow the new schedule and comply with the guidelines as it prepares to select candidates for the upcoming elections.
