The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Wednesday in Abuja criticised some factions within the Peoples Democratic Party, including those linked to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde and Taminu Turaki, over the ongoing leadership dispute, accusing them of acting against court decisions and misleading party members.
Speaking during a media session with journalists, Wike rejected claims of any interim leadership arrangement within the party. He maintained that such moves have no legal backing and go against existing court rulings on the party’s structure.
He explained that only a leadership recognised by the court has the authority to manage the affairs of the party, adding that any attempt to create a parallel structure is not valid. According to him, forming another leadership outside the legal process creates confusion and weakens internal order within the party.
Wike also questioned the actions of those involved, saying their approach shows a lack of respect for judicial decisions. He said the courts had already given direction on who should oversee party matters until a proper convention is held, and any effort to ignore that process is wrong.
He further spoke about the conduct of some political actors and legal professionals, noting that those expected to defend the law are now acting in ways that go against it. He warned that such behaviour could affect public trust in institutions and deepen the crisis within the party.
The minister maintained that adherence to legal processes remains the only way to resolve the leadership issue and restore order within the party.
