On Wednesday in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, inspected ongoing road and infrastructure projects and directed contractors to complete key works on time ahead of plans to commission them during President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office, while reviewing progress on sites such as the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange, Airport Road to Kuje route, Kuje to Gwagwalada road, City Gate project, and Wuse to Central Area link roads.
During the inspection, Wike moved around different construction sites to check the level of work and the pace of delivery. At the Jahi–Gwarimpa Interchange handled by CBC Global, he observed that the work quality was good and said the project was close to finishing, though he still had concerns that some parts, especially the bridge section, might not be ready within the expected period.
He also visited the Airport Road to Kuje Junction project being handled by Arab Contractors and noted that the work was progressing well, with expectations that it could be completed within weeks if the current speed continues. Similar progress was recorded at the Kuje to Gwagwalada road, where construction work was moving steadily according to plans.
At the City Gate project handled by Julius Berger, Wike described the ongoing work as strong and modern, saying the area would soon change the look of Abuja’s main entrance once completed. He also reviewed the Wuse and Central Area link roads, where he said the standard of work was good but the pace needed to improve to meet deadlines.
The minister explained that several projects across the capital city are expected to be ready for commissioning during the anniversary period, including water treatment plants in Bwari and Ushafa, road works in Katampe, Gishiri, Gaduwa, Bazango and Kaura, sections of the Kuje–Gwagwalada corridor, the CLC project, and the development of the Apo mechanics relocation site.
He also noted that the City Gate project will include permanent security structures, round-the-clock monitoring systems, and artificial intelligence-based surveillance tools to improve safety around the area.
Wike added that the government will continue working with contractors to ensure that all ongoing projects are completed within agreed timelines as part of efforts to reshape infrastructure in the capital city.
