Former Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Abubakar Malami, has obtained the African Democratic Congress, ADC, governorship nomination form for the 2027 election in Kebbi State as he officially entered the race to contest for the state’s top seat.
Malami made his decision known on Saturday through a statement shared on his official Facebook page, where he criticised the condition of governance in Kebbi State and said the situation had become too serious to ignore.
The former minister said insecurity, poverty, poor healthcare, economic hardship and the rising number of out-of-school children were among the major problems affecting the state. According to him, many communities are facing difficult living conditions while public services continue to decline.
He claimed that a large number of children between the ages of six and fifteen are currently out of school in the state and said many families are living in severe poverty. Malami also raised concerns about malnutrition and poor healthcare delivery, especially in rural areas where access to medical services remains limited.
According to him, insecurity has also continued to affect several communities through repeated bandit attacks, kidnappings and displacement of farmers, leading to reduced farming activities and economic struggles in many parts of the state.
Malami described the situation as a failure in governance and said he decided to contest because of the need to rebuild the state and improve living conditions for residents. He promised to focus on security, education, healthcare, agriculture, youth empowerment and reforms in public administration if elected governor in 2027.
The former minister added that he intends to promote accountability and development while working towards restoring stability and economic growth in Kebbi State.
He also stated that the state needs a new direction capable of addressing its current challenges and improving the welfare of citizens.
