On Monday in Abakaliki, a chieftain of the Labour Party, Labour Party, Dr. Emmanuel Ezeh, rejected claims of a zoning crisis within the party in Ebonyi State, saying the reports were politically driven and aimed at bringing old political methods into the party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Ezeh, who previously contested for a seat in the National Assembly under the Labour Party, said the party was built on fairness, competence, and accountability, not on ethnic or sectional arrangements. He argued that zoning politics has not helped Nigeria’s democratic system in many ways and said many citizens are now more interested in leadership based on ideas, performance, and the ability to improve people’s lives.
Speaking during an interaction with journalists, Ezeh said discussions around zoning within the party were unnecessary distractions that could affect the party’s political direction and weaken its values. According to him, leadership positions should go to people with the right vision and ability to serve rather than being decided by regional considerations.
The Labour Party member also spoke about growing political consultations ahead of the 2027 general elections. He revealed that he has been meeting with supporters and political stakeholders from different groups as talks continue about his possible political future. However, he explained that any decision he takes would be based on principles and the interest of the people rather than personal ambition.
Ezeh also restated his loyalty to the Labour Party, saying the party still represents equal opportunity, integrity, and responsible leadership. He added that many young Nigerians and supporters across the country are demanding a different political culture built on transparency, fairness, and good governance.
He further said he remains committed to policies that can improve the welfare of citizens and strengthen democratic values regardless of political differences.
