On Monday in Abuja, the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, spoke about the emerging political coalition in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 elections, saying members of the alliance would base their decisions on areas where they have strong political support.
Wike made the remarks while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects in the Federal Capital Territory ahead of activities planned for the third anniversary of President Bola Tinubu. According to him, politicians involved in the coalition would study the political situation carefully and work together based on their strengths in different parts of the state.
The former Rivers State governor also distanced himself from the screening process currently taking place within the All Progressives Congress, All Progressives Congress, in Rivers State. He said he was not a member of the APC and had no involvement in the screening of aspirants or decisions taken by the party.
Wike added that he would not comment on issues that do not directly concern him.During the inspection tour, the minister expressed satisfaction with the level of work on several road and bridge projects in Abuja.
He explained that contractors handling some of the projects had assured the government that pending works, including installation of streetlights, would be completed before the end of May.
He mentioned ongoing work on the Dutse-Alhaji to M5 road project and another completed road project being handled by China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation. According to him, only the installation of streetlights remained on the completed road.
He also spoke positively about progress on a bridge project expected to improve traffic movement toward Kubwa and nearby areas.Wike described the projects as part of efforts by the Tinubu administration to improve infrastructure in the FCT.
He said the quality of work done by contractors showed the government’s commitment to development in the capital city.The minister also reacted to complaints about alleged harassment by officials of the Abuja Municipal Area Council during tax collection exercises.
He admitted that tax collection should be carried out in a proper manner but noted that many residents often avoid paying taxes. However, he said no official complaint had been submitted to the FCT Administration concerning the conduct of the council officials.
