On Sunday, human rights activist Aisha Yesufu said she will push for policies aimed at improving the lives of residents of the Federal Capital Territory if she wins a Senate seat in 2027.
She made the statement through her verified X account, where she spoke about her plans for Abuja residents and how she intends to use legislative powers to support them.
Yesufu explained that she is planning to sponsor a bill called the Abuja Residents Empowerment Bill. She said the proposed law will focus on creating better opportunities for people living in the capital city.
According to her, the plan includes giving more chances to youth and women-owned businesses when government contracts are awarded. She also spoke about measures she wants included in the bill to address rent issues, reduce double taxation, and support skills development for residents.
She added that part of her proposal would ensure that a portion of taxes collected in Abuja is used to provide small loans for business owners and help them grow their enterprises. She said these steps are meant to make economic life easier for residents and give them more access to financial support and job opportunities.
Yesufu, who is known for her role in civic advocacy, also linked her comments to her political ambition of representing the FCT in the Senate in 2027, saying her focus would be on improving living conditions for ordinary residents.
