The All Progressives Congress on Wednesday night after the ruling party dismissed reports claiming it had adjusted the timetable for its 2027 primary elections.
The clarification came through a statement released by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Felix Morka, who said the previously announced dates for all primary elections remain unchanged despite reports circulating on social media and other communication platforms.
According to the statement, the House of Representatives primary election will still take place on May 15, 2026, while the Senate primary election is expected to hold on May 18, 2026. The party also confirmed that the State House of Assembly primary election will be conducted on May 20, followed by the governorship primary election on May 21.
The APC further maintained that its presidential primary election remains fixed for May 23, 2026, as earlier announced by the party leadership.
The ruling party explained that the statement became necessary after different reports claimed that changes had been made to the election timetable. The APC said those reports were false and urged party members, supporters and the public to ignore any unofficial information concerning the primary election schedule.
The clarification comes at a period when political activities within the APC and other parties are gathering momentum ahead of the 2027 general elections. Across different states, aspirants have continued consultations and screening exercises while political alignments and campaigns gradually increase within party structures.
The APC leadership also used the opportunity to remind members to rely only on official party communication regarding election activities and internal arrangements as preparations continue for the upcoming primaries.
