The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday dismissed reports of an alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the Allied Peoples Movement ahead of the 2027 elections, describing the claims as false and misleading.
He spoke in Abuja during the inspection of ongoing road projects in Gomani-Yangoje in Kwali Area Council.Wike said there was no agreement between the PDP and APM, adding that both the Independent National Electoral Commission and members of the PDP were aware that no such coalition existed.
According to him, the party was still carrying out its political activities independently, including the screening of aspirants for various positions.The FCT minister accused Oyo State Governor, Seyi Makinde, of creating the impression that the PDP had entered into a partnership with the APM in preparation for the next general election.
He claimed that the move was connected to Makinde’s alleged presidential ambition ahead of the 2027 polls.Wike stated that the PDP would eventually submit its candidates to INEC without any alliance arrangement attached to the process. He added that some politicians were trying to confuse Nigerians with claims that did not exist within the structure of the opposition party.
He also said Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed had never spoken publicly about any coalition involving the PDP and APM. According to Wike, the story of an alliance was only being pushed by individuals pursuing personal political interests.The minister further claimed that Makinde would not emerge as the PDP presidential candidate, insisting that the governor’s political plans were already facing challenges within the party.
Wike also reacted to comments surrounding the Rivers State governor and his continued stay in the All Progressives Congress. He said the governor had already made his position clear and had not asked anyone for sympathy over his political situation.
According to the minister, any issue concerning the Rivers governor and the APC should be treated as an internal matter of the ruling party. He maintained that he would only speak on matters relating to the PDP and not interfere in the affairs of another political party.
During the visit, Wike also inspected ongoing infrastructure projects in the area as part of efforts by the FCT Administration to improve roads and development in satellite communities across Abuja.
