The faction of the Peoples Democratic Party loyal to Nyesom Wike denied reports linking the party to an alliance with the Allied Peoples Movement following a recent political gathering in Ibadan, Oyo State.
The party’s National Working Committee, backed by Wike, dismissed claims that the PDP entered into any agreement or coalition with the APM during the Ibadan event. Leaders of the group described the reports circulating in political circles as false and unauthorised.
The clarification was made in Abuja by PDP spokesman Jungudo Mohammed, who said the party had not approved any political alliance with the APM or any other group ahead of the 2027 elections.
According to the faction, individuals close to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde were allegedly trying to create the impression that the PDP was building a stronger political front through the Ibadan gathering. The group also claimed that the event was connected to alleged plans involving Makinde and the APM ahead of the next general election.
The Wike-backed camp maintained that members and aspirants within the PDP still recognise the leadership structure headed by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu. The faction insisted that the recognised leadership of the party remains unchanged despite ongoing disagreements within the opposition party.
The group also revealed that legal action had already started against some party figures accused of presenting themselves as PDP leaders without proper authority.
The latest disagreement adds to the growing crisis within the PDP after the Supreme Court reportedly nullified the party convention held in Ibadan. The court decision has continued to create tension among different factions struggling for control of the opposition party ahead of the 2027 elections.
Political activities and alliance talks have continued across several parties as preparations gradually gather pace for the next presidential and governorship elections in the country.
