The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, on Thursday expressed satisfaction with the ongoing road project linking Gomani and Yangoji in Abuja, saying the development reflects President Bola Tinubu’s plan to extend infrastructure to satellite communities under the Renewed Hope Agenda. He spoke during an inspection of the project in Kwali Area Council of the FCT.
Wike said the current administration decided from the beginning not to focus development only within the city centre. According to him, the government’s aim is to improve roads and other infrastructure in rural and satellite areas to reduce the movement of people from villages into the city.
He explained that the Gomani-Yangoji road project is part of a wider road expansion programme across the FCT. The minister recalled that the A2-Pai road project was one of the first major projects carried out under the same plan and was inaugurated by President Tinubu during his second year in office.
According to Wike, the 13-kilometre road was awarded to Zeberced Construction Company, the same firm that handled the earlier A2-Pai project. He said work on the road had reached an advanced level, with major parts of the drainage system already completed while construction of streetlight pillars was ongoing.
The minister stated that the bridge along the road had already been launched and expressed satisfaction with the speed and quality of the work done so far. He added that the project would be ready for inauguration during activities lined up for President Tinubu’s third anniversary in office this June.
Wike praised the contractor for keeping to the agreed timeline and maintaining good standards on the project. He also commended the company’s management and workers for their commitment to completing the road as scheduled.
He said the President would be pleased to see development extending to communities outside the city centre, adding that the road project would improve movement, encourage growth and bring more attention to satellite towns across the Federal Capital Territory.
