Former Deputy Governor of Sokoto State, Manir Muhammad Dan’iya, has emerged as the governorship candidate of the African Democratic Congress movement ahead of the 2027 election in the state.
The development was confirmed in a statement released early Friday by Aminu Abubakar, who previously served as Dan’iya’s press secretary. The statement said party leaders, stakeholders and supporters backed the former deputy governor to lead the ADC movement into the next governorship election in Sokoto State.
Dan’iya, who served under former Sokoto State Governor Aminu Tambuwal, described his emergence as a major responsibility. He said the support he received from political leaders and party members showed that many people believed in the movement’s plans for the state ahead of 2027.
The former deputy governor also appreciated Tambuwal for his role in his political journey and acknowledged the support from elders, women groups, youths and political associates across the state.
According to him, the ADC movement is focused on promoting good governance, inclusive leadership and policies that would improve the lives of residents in Sokoto State. He also called on party members and supporters to remain united and peaceful as preparations for the election continue.
Political consultations have continued to increase in Sokoto State as different parties prepare for the 2027 governorship race. Reports showed that at least 10 aspirants had earlier shown interest in contesting for the ADC governorship ticket before Dan’iya eventually emerged as the candidate.
Among those who reportedly showed interest in the position was former Nigerian Ambassador to Jordan, Faruk Malami Yabo.
Dan’iya also holds the traditional title of Walin Sokoto and remains one of the known political figures in the state following his years in public office and close relationship with Tambuwal.
