Yusuf Buhari, son of late former President Muhammadu Buhari, emerged as the All Progressives Congress, APC, candidate for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency after winning the party’s House of Representatives primary election held on Saturday, May 16, 2026, in Katsina State ahead of the 2027 general elections in Nigeria.
The APC primary election was conducted as part of the party’s nationwide exercise to select candidates for different legislative positions across the country. Yusuf Buhari secured victory with a wide margin after polling 5,849 votes during the exercise.
His opponent, Auwal Lawal Daura, received 21 votes in the contest. With the outcome, Yusuf Buhari officially became the APC flag bearer for the Sandamu/Daura/Mai’adua Federal Constituency seat for the next general election.
The primary election formed part of the APC’s ongoing National Assembly primaries taking place across several states. Party members and delegates participated in the process to determine candidates who will represent the ruling party in the 2027 elections.
The development places Yusuf Buhari among new political figures preparing to contest elective office under the APC platform following years of his father’s involvement in Nigerian politics and leadership.
The party has continued its primary exercises in different parts of the country, although some states have recorded delays, complaints and disputes linked to logistics and the conduct of the process.
