A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, loyal to Oyo State Governor Seyi Makinde, has announced plans to screen thousands of aspirants seeking different elective offices ahead of the 2027 general elections across the country.
The faction disclosed this in a statement shared on its official Facebook page on Sunday, stating that the screening exercise would take place nationwide on Tuesday, May 19, 2026, beginning at 10:00 a.m.
According to the party, a total of 2,122 aspirants for state Houses of Assembly, 748 House of Representatives aspirants, 198 senatorial aspirants and 112 governorship aspirants are expected to appear before the screening panels.
The party also stated that one presidential aspirant would be screened as part of preparations for the 2027 elections.
The statement added that the Interim National Working Committee had approved and released the names of members who would serve on the screening committees and appeal panels for the exercise.
The PDP faction explained that the release of the screening timetable and committee details followed the party’s guidelines and election timetable for the 2027 polls.
The development comes as political parties across the country continue preparations for their primaries and candidate selection processes ahead of the next general election.
