The African Democratic Congress has appointed former governors Liyel Imoke and Abdulfatah Ahmed to head key committees for its presidential primaries ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party announced the appointments on Monday in Abuja through a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi.
According to the statement, Imoke will serve as chairman of the Presidential Screening Committee, while Ahmed will lead the Presidential Election Committee responsible for overseeing the conduct of the party’s presidential primary election.
The ADC also named other members of the Presidential Screening Committee.
They include Cyril Maduabum as secretary, alongside Lawal Batagarawa, Prof. Bode Ayorinde, Nnena Elendu-Ukeje, Prof. David Salifu and retired Colonel Abubakar Ciroma.
For the Presidential Election Committee, the party appointed Prof. Yisa Gana as secretary. Other members include retired Major-General Adamu Jalingo, Dr Auwalu Anwar, Chief Emenike Ikechi, Dr Macaulay Iyare and Tajudeen Bakare.
The party further announced the formation of a Presidential Appeal Committee headed by Dr Suleiman Usman, SAN. Ken Imasuagbon will serve as secretary, while Dare Okerade was named as a member of the committee.
In preparation for governorship primaries across the states, the ADC also constituted two governorship screening panels. The first panel will be chaired by Shaibu Aruwa, SAN, with Femi Olawuyi serving as secretary. Members of the panel include Lauretta Onochie, Dr Vivian Ugochukwu, Akilu Indabawa, Ibrahim Wali and Prof. Rabiu Bello.
The second governorship screening panel will be led by Mrs Justina Abanida, while Chille Igbawua will serve as secretary. Other members are Gerrard Irona, Senator Yisa Braimoh, Hassan Ibrahim, Joseph Enemali and retired Navy Captain Aliyu Ngolmo.
The ADC also approved two separate governorship appeal committees. The first committee will be chaired by P.I. Oyewole, with Abdulhakeen Ibrahim as secretary and Adah Usman as a member. The second appeal committee will be headed by M.E. Sheriff, while Realwan Okpanachi will serve as secretary and Hassan Yakubu as a member.
The party said the committees were set up to ensure a fair and transparent process during its primaries as preparations continue for the 2027 elections.
