In Abuja on Tuesday, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission released mugshots of former Minister of Power Saleh Mamman after his arrest by operatives of the commission over corruption allegations linked to public funds.
The anti-graft agency made the photos public shortly after confirming that Mamman had been taken into custody following weeks of surveillance. In the images released by the commission, the former minister was seen in handcuffs while holding an official booking board during the arrest process.
According to the EFCC, Mamman was arrested in Kaduna State during an operation carried out in the early hours of Tuesday. The commission also disclosed that two other individuals accused of helping him evade arrest were apprehended during the operation.
The EFCC chairman, Ola Olukoyede, confirmed the arrest while addressing journalists at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja. He explained that the building where Mamman was arrested is also being investigated as part of the ongoing corruption probe.
The former minister was recently sentenced by a Federal High Court in Abuja after being found guilty on multiple counts related to money laundering and fraud involving billions of naira connected to the Mambilla and Zungeru hydropower projects handled under the Ministry of Power.
The court reportedly sentenced him to 75 years imprisonment in absentia after convicting him on 12 charges linked to the alleged diversion of about N33.8 billion meant for government projects.
Following his arrest, Mamman was transferred into EFCC custody where he remains pending further legal proceedings. The commission said the operation reflects the government’s commitment to fighting corruption and recovering public funds allegedly stolen by public officials.
Olukoyede also stated that the EFCC would continue investigations involving both former and serving officials, adding that the commission intends to pursue corruption cases across different sectors without exception.
