The Labour Party has revised its timetable for the conduct of its 2027 primary elections, moving all major internal contests to a single date.
The party had earlier scheduled governorship and state House of Assembly primaries for May 27, while the presidential and National Assembly primaries were expected to take place on May 29. Under the new arrangement, all the exercises will now hold on May 30.
The announcement was made by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, who explained that the review followed concerns over timing and national observances during the original dates.
According to the party, the adjustment was made to allow members, aspirants, supporters and other Nigerians enough time to participate in religious and national activities without pressure from political engagements.
The party explained that the Sallah period carries deep meaning for many citizens, while the anniversary of democratic rule also remains an important national event that deserves attention and participation.
Labour Party stated that combining the primaries into one date would help improve participation and create a smoother process for stakeholders across the country.
The party also acknowledged that the change could affect earlier plans by aspirants and members but expressed regret over any inconvenience the new schedule may cause.
With the revised timetable now in place, attention is expected to shift toward preparations for the primaries as political parties continue activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
