The African Democratic Congress, ADC, on Friday began its governorship primary election in Rivers State ahead of the 2027 general election, with voting taking place across all 319 wards in the state under the party’s internal election process.
The exercise, which is being supervised by members of the party’s National Election Committee, is being conducted using the Option A4 voting method. Party officials moved across different locations to monitor the process and ensure the election followed approved procedures.
Before the commencement of voting, governorship aspirants held consultations as part of preparations for the primary. Following the meeting, the number of contestants reduced after two of the seven aspirants withdrew from the race and declared support for one of the contenders.
Among those who stepped down was Henry Ugboma, who backed Gabriel Pidomson, a former member of the Rivers State House of Assembly and a former Secretary to the Rivers State Government.
With the withdrawals, the contest continued among the remaining aspirants seeking to secure the party’s ticket for the governorship election. Those still in the race include Gabriel Pidomson, Sokonte Davies, Farah Dagogo, Leloonu Nwibubasa and Allen Hart.
The primary marks another stage in political activities ahead of the 2027 elections as parties across the country continue selecting candidates for major offices.
Party officials are expected to conclude collation after voting across the wards and announce the outcome in line with ADC’s election guidelines.
