The Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Lagos State has completed the screening of aspirants seeking to contest elective positions under the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, with governorship hopeful Prince Laja Adeoye and 67 others cleared to move forward.
The screening exercise was conducted in Lagos by a five-member committee set up by the party to assess aspirants and confirm their eligibility in line with internal guidelines and electoral requirements.
According to the committee, the process covered governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and Lagos State House of Assembly positions.
Chairman of the Lagos State Screening Committee, Abiodun Abari, said the exercise involved the party’s sole consensus governorship aspirant, Adeoye, alongside other contestants across different categories. The committee screened three aspirants for the Senate, 24 for the House of Representatives and 40 for seats in the Lagos State House of Assembly.
At the end of the exercise, all aspirants were approved and are expected to be formally affirmed as consensus candidates during the party’s primary elections.
Abari explained that the screening followed party rules and progressed without setbacks because agreements had already been reached on candidates for all positions. He said the review process was aimed at ensuring the party presents candidates considered suitable for the coming election cycle.
He added that reaching consensus among party members was not achieved easily but became possible through cooperation among leaders and members. According to him, some aspirants agreed to step aside in support of a united direction for the party.
Abari also stated that the existing alliance between the Peoples Democratic Party and the APM had strengthened the party’s position ahead of the 2027 elections in Lagos. He said the coalition had placed APM in a stronger position among opposition parties in the state and expressed confidence that the arrangement would improve the party’s electoral chances.
Speaking after his clearance, Adeoye said he had fulfilled all conditions required under the Electoral Act and complied with the guidelines of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He said his appearance before the screening committee and successful submission of the necessary documents marked another stage in his governorship ambition and his plan for Lagos ahead of the election.
