The African Democratic Congress has called on its presidential aspirants, party leaders, delegates and members to maintain peace and unity as the party prepares to hold its presidential primary election on Monday.
The appeal was made in a statement released in Abuja by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Bolaji Abdullahi, ahead of the exercise expected to produce the party’s presidential candidate for the 2027 general election.
According to the party, the primary election represents an important stage in its political plans and a moment that could shape public perception of its readiness to offer an alternative platform ahead of the next election cycle.
ADC stated that the conduct of party members throughout the process would reflect the values and internal culture the party wants to project to Nigerians. It urged aspirants and their supporters to act responsibly and avoid actions capable of creating tension before, during and after the voting process.
The party said the primary election should be carried out in a way that reflects openness, respect for democratic principles, national unity and adherence to established rules.
ADC also noted that political competition naturally comes with different opinions and interests but maintained that such differences should not divide members or weaken the party’s broader objective.
According to the party, the focus should remain on strengthening the organisation and preparing for the larger task of presenting leadership options to Nigerians ahead of the 2027 elections.
The statement added that arrangements had already been put in place to ensure the process is conducted in an orderly, transparent and credible manner.
ADC further urged members across the country to approach the exercise with maturity and commitment, stating that the outcome should leave the party more united and ready for future political contests.
