Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, on Monday said the ongoing reconstruction of the Rivers State Secretariat Complex in Port Harcourt is expected to be completed and ready for use by the first quarter of 2027. The governor made this known after inspecting work at the large government facility located in the Old GRA area of the state capital.
The inspection formed part of the governor’s effort to assess the current level of progress on the project and determine whether construction was moving according to schedule. It was his second visit to the site this year after an earlier assessment.
According to information released by the governor’s office, Fubara said he had already observed visible changes from outside the complex but decided to inspect the internal sections personally to confirm the extent of work being carried out across the buildings.
After touring the site, the governor expressed satisfaction with the pace of construction and said the project remained on course for delivery within the projected timeline. He added that his administration remained committed to completing projects already started rather than leaving them unfinished.
The Rivers State Secretariat Complex is one of the state’s long-standing public infrastructure projects. Originally built in the 1970s shortly after the creation of Rivers State, the complex consists of several high-rise structures, including the 17-storey Point Block, the 10-storey Podium Block, and three additional seven-storey buildings identified as Blocks A, B and C.
The ongoing work is designed to completely modernise the facility and improve its functionality for government operations. The reconstruction includes structural repairs, redesign of office spaces, installation of updated facilities and improvement of utility systems across the complex.
Government officials said the goal of the project is to create a more efficient and modern working environment that supports better service delivery and improves conditions for civil servants in the state.
Fubara maintained that his administration intends to sustain completion of public projects as part of broader efforts to upgrade infrastructure and improve government facilities across Rivers State.
