A faction of the Peoples Democratic Party in Lagos State loyal to the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has suspended former Deputy National Chairman of the party, Chief Bode George, along with 23 other members over allegations of anti-party activities.
The decision was announced on Friday through a statement issued by the state disciplinary committee. The statement, signed by committee chairman Kayode Ogunbiyi and secretary Desmond Agbo, said the action followed complaints and petitions received against some party members.
According to the faction, the disciplinary committee met on May 26, 2026, to review allegations involving activities considered harmful to the party. After examining the petitions, the committee resolved to suspend several members accused of violating party rules and engaging in actions capable of creating division within the PDP.
The faction said it could no longer tolerate conduct that could weaken the party or create disunity among members. It also stated that the suspension of those affected was part of efforts to maintain discipline and protect the interests of the party in the state.
The committee further disclosed that it reviewed an earlier disciplinary measure reportedly taken against Bode George by the party’s National Executive Committee and decided to uphold that action. As a result, the former party leader remains under suspension according to the faction.
Other members affected by the decision include Aduke Maina, Abimbola Ogunkelu, Laja Adeoye, Tunji Shele, Sunday Olaifa, Gbenga Adegbesan, Rita Orji, Kofoworola Bucknor and Onikepo Oshodi, among others.
The faction also accused some of the suspended members of maintaining relationships with rival political groups and participating in political activities not approved by the PDP. It said such actions were contrary to the party’s interests and could not be ignored.
Following the suspension, the affected members have been barred from participating in party meetings, programmes and activities within Lagos State. They are also prohibited from representing the PDP in any official or unofficial capacity for the duration of the disciplinary action.
The faction warned that additional legal steps could be taken against any suspended member found acting against the interests of the party.
The development adds to the internal disagreements that have continued to affect the PDP in recent years. Bode George, one of the party’s most prominent leaders in Lagos, has repeatedly been involved in political disputes with groups aligned with Wike and other influential blocs within the party.
Efforts to obtain George’s reaction were unsuccessful as he could not be reached at the time of filing the report. His phone line was unavailable, while messages sent to him did not go through.
