The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said residents of rural communities in the FCT are now experiencing the impact of government projects under the administration of President Bola Tinubu.
He made the remarks while inspecting ongoing infrastructure projects across parts of the territory, including the Yangoji–Gomani–Pai Road in Kwali Area Council.
According to Wike, the road project was initiated to improve the living conditions of residents in rural communities that had for years lacked access to basic infrastructure. He noted that many of the affected communities previously felt disconnected from government activities because they rarely saw projects that directly affected their daily lives.
The minister said the large number of residents who came out to welcome him during the inspection reflected their appreciation for the ongoing development in the area. He explained that the gathering was not planned by the administration, adding that only the construction company had been informed about the inspection visit.
Wike stated that many residents had long doubted that major infrastructure projects would reach their communities. However, he said the ongoing road construction has changed that perception and given people a clearer understanding of the role of government in improving the welfare of citizens.
He added that the administration of President Tinubu remains committed to delivering projects that improve the lives of ordinary people. According to him, the true measure of governance is the extent to which citizens feel the positive effects of government policies and programmes.
The minister assured residents that the FCT Administration would continue to invest in projects aimed at improving transportation, access to services and overall living standards. He acknowledged that there had been challenges in the past but maintained that efforts are being made to improve conditions across the territory.
Speaking on the Arab Road project in Kubwa, Wike expressed satisfaction with the pace and quality of work. He noted that major aspects of the project, including drainage infrastructure and streetlight installations, had been completed and that the road would soon be ready for public inauguration.
He also disclosed that the commissioning of completed projects across the FCT will begin on June 8 and continue for 31 days. The exercise, according to him, will showcase various infrastructure projects executed by the administration in different parts of the territory.
The inspection formed part of ongoing efforts by the FCT Administration to monitor the progress of key projects and ensure their timely completion for the benefit of residents.
