Former Deputy Senate President Ovie Omo-Agege has declared that he will support Peter Obi in the 2027 presidential election, describing the former Labour Party candidate as the presidential flagbearer he is backing under the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking during a television interview on Wednesday, Omo-Agege said his commitment to the party remains firm despite his recent move from the All Progressives Congress (APC) to the NDC. He stated that his political loyalty now belongs fully to his new party and that he would work for the success of its candidates in future elections.
The former Delta State governorship candidate said his support for Obi is in line with his belief in party discipline. According to him, just as he worked for the success of President Bola Tinubu while he was a member of the APC, he intends to show the same level of dedication to the NDC and its presidential candidate.
Omo-Agege also dismissed reports suggesting that he lost the NDC senatorial primary election in Delta Central. He maintained that he won the contest and insisted that there was no uncertainty about the outcome of the exercise.
He further accused supporters of Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori of spreading false claims against him. According to Omo-Agege, members of the governor’s political camp are worried about his influence and the role he could play in the political contests leading up to the 2027 elections.
The former lawmaker argued that the attacks against him are driven by fears over his political strength in Delta State. He expressed confidence that he remains a major force in the state’s politics and suggested that his opponents are already concerned about future electoral battles.
His comments come amid growing political realignments in Delta State following the emergence of new alliances and movements ahead of the 2027 general elections. With political actors already positioning themselves for the next round of elections, Omo-Agege’s endorsement of Obi adds another dimension to the evolving political landscape.
The remarks also come at a time when debates continue over the outcome of the NDC primaries in several states, with some aspirants and party members awaiting official confirmation of results.
Despite the uncertainty in some areas, Omo-Agege remains convinced that his victory in the Delta Central senatorial primary is beyond dispute and that the party will formally ratify the outcome.
