The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said several key infrastructure projects carried out in Abuja are set for commissioning as activities marking President Bola Tinubu’s third year in office approach.
Wike made the announcement after inspecting a number of completed projects across the FCT. According to him, the projects reflect the administration’s efforts to improve infrastructure and expand development to different parts of the territory.
Among the projects inspected were the Jahi-Gwarimpa interchange, the Airport Expressway to Kuje Road, the Kuje-Gwagwalada Road, the Outer Southern Expressway main carriageways and the renovated Abuja City Gate.
The minister expressed satisfaction with the progress and quality of work delivered on the projects. He noted that residents have already started benefiting from better road networks and improved movement within the territory.
He explained that some of the newly completed roads have reduced travel time between Abuja city centre and surrounding communities. He added that easier movement between Kuje, Gwagwalada and other parts of the FCT would support economic activities and make daily commuting less stressful for residents.
Wike also spoke on the renovation of the Abuja City Gate, describing it as one of the projects that will improve the appearance of the nation’s capital and create a better impression for visitors entering the city.
According to him, the commissioning programme is expected to begin next week, subject to final approval from the Presidency. He disclosed that projects such as the Airport Road-Kuje Road and the extension of the Outer Southern Expressway are among those proposed for early commissioning.
The minister explained that while President Tinubu may not personally commission every project, other senior government officials are expected to participate in the exercise. He said the Vice President, Senate President, Speaker of the House of Representatives, the First Lady and other top officials may represent the President at different project inaugurations.
Wike further revealed that the FCT Administration is preparing to begin work on additional road projects, including the Tunga Madaki-Zuba Road and other strategic routes. He said the administration remains committed to expanding infrastructure development across the territory.
He also called on the media to draw public attention to the projects being completed in Abuja, noting that development efforts are reaching both urban and rural communities within the FCT.
The minister commended contractors handling the various projects for meeting delivery timelines and maintaining quality standards. He expressed confidence that the completed projects would improve transportation, encourage business activities and enhance the living conditions of residents across the Federal Capital Territory.
