The Peoples Redemption Party (PRP) has cleared former Cross River State Governor Donald Duke to contest as its presidential candidate in the 2027 general elections after the party completed the review of its primary elections.
The decision was approved by the party’s National Working Committee (NWC) following the submission of a report by the Primaries Appeal Committee. The committee had reviewed the outcome of the party’s recent primaries before presenting its findings to the leadership.
In a statement issued on Saturday by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Muhammed Ishaq, the NWC also approved the results of governorship, Senate, House of Representatives and State House of Assembly primary elections conducted across the country.
The party said all candidates who emerged from the primaries have been cleared to fly its flag in the 2027 elections. However, the primary election conducted for the Tarauni Federal Constituency seat in Kano State was cancelled and excluded from the list of approved results.
According to the party, preparations for the 2027 polls are progressing steadily, with plans already in place to present candidates for various elective offices across the federation.
The PRP disclosed that it intends to field about 420 candidates for different positions during the general elections. The party described the development as part of its effort to remain active in the electoral process and expand its presence across the country.
The leadership also stated that the party remains committed to internal democracy and transparent political processes. It added that its focus is on presenting candidates capable of providing effective leadership and addressing national challenges.
The clearance of Donald Duke officially places the former governor among the early contenders preparing for the 2027 presidential election as political parties continue to conclude their internal processes ahead of the polls.
