As the June 20 governorship election in Ekiti State approaches, Kogi Central Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan has thrown her weight behind the Peoples Democratic Party candidate, Dr. Oluwole Oluyede, urging residents to support his bid for the state’s top office.
The senator made the appeal on Saturday during the grand finale of the PDP governorship campaign held in Ado-Ekiti. Addressing a large gathering of party supporters, youth groups, women and members of the Ebira community, she described Oluyede as a capable leader with the experience and vision needed to lead the state.
Akpoti-Uduaghan said she had spent several days travelling across communities in Ekiti to mobilise support for the PDP candidate. According to her, Oluyede has built a reputation for being close to the people and understanding their concerns.
She said the governorship hopeful has shown commitment to improving governance, creating opportunities for young people, supporting women, strengthening education and growing the state’s economy. She added that his leadership style makes him accessible to ordinary citizens and community stakeholders.
The senator also portrayed Oluyede as a leader who promotes unity and equal opportunities for all residents, regardless of their ethnic background. She noted that one of the reasons she decided to actively campaign for him was his pledge to run an inclusive administration that would accommodate various groups living in the state, including the Ebira community.
According to her, Ekiti needs leadership that promotes fairness, peace and participation by all residents. She expressed confidence that the PDP candidate would provide such leadership if elected.
Akpoti-Uduaghan further commended the political awareness of Ekiti voters, saying the people are known for their education and active involvement in democratic processes. She said she believes voters will carefully assess the candidates and choose the person they consider most qualified to govern the state.
Speaking on her campaigns efforts, the senator disclosed that she visited several communities across the state, including areas with notable Ebira populations, to canvass support for the PDP candidate. She said her mission was focused on encouraging women, youths and members of the Ebira community to participate in the election and vote for Oluyede.
She maintained that the PDP candidate represents a platform for development, inclusion and progress, adding that residents should take advantage of the election to support a candidate they believe can improve the state.
The campaign finale attracted party leaders, supporters, youth organisations and women groups from different parts of Ekiti State. Many attendees expressed confidence that the PDP would perform strongly when voters head to the polls on June 20.
