The Labour Party has expressed satisfaction with the Independent National Electoral Commission after the electoral body corrected an earlier omission involving the party and its candidate for the forthcoming Enugu North Senatorial District by-election.
The party said the initial list released by INEC did not include the Labour Party among the political parties approved to participate in the election. The omission also affected the party’s candidate despite claims that all required legal and electoral conditions had been met before the publication of the list.
According to the party, discussions were later held with the leadership of the commission to address the issue. Following those engagements, INEC reviewed the matter and updated the list to include both the Labour Party and its candidate for the contest scheduled for June 20.
Reacting to the development, the party described the correction as a positive step that would strengthen confidence in the electoral process. It noted that the commission’s action showed a willingness to address concerns brought before it and ensure fairness for all participating political parties.
The Labour Party stated that it is fully prepared for the by-election and ready to present what it described as people-oriented representation to voters in Enugu North. The party expressed confidence in its campaign efforts as the election date draws closer.
It also appreciated members, supporters and sympathisers who sought clarification after the initial omission from the candidate list. The party said their continued interest and commitment played an important role during the period of uncertainty.
With campaigns entering their final phase, the Labour Party extended goodwill to its candidates contesting in Enugu North and other by-elections taking place in different parts of the country, including Nasarawa North and Rivers South-East.
The party added that it hopes the elections will produce outcomes that strengthen democratic values and improve public trust in Nigeria’s electoral system. It also expressed optimism about its chances at the polls as preparations continue ahead of voting day.
