Stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress in Taraba North Senatorial District, together with leaders of the Conference of APC Support Groups, have called on the party leadership to respect the outcome of the senatorial primary election in the area and avoid any attempt to alter the result.
The group made the call in a statement issued in Abuja on Tuesday, where they congratulated Muhammad Bello on his emergence as the APC senatorial candidate for Taraba North. They said his victory reflected the choice of party members in the district.
They also congratulated Senator Haruna Manu of Taraba Central and Senator David Jimkuta of Taraba South for emerging as candidates in their respective zones, noting that the primaries were conducted by the APC screening and election committee and monitored by officials of the Independent National Electoral Commission.
However, the stakeholders alleged that some individuals within the party were trying to change the outcome of the Taraba North primary, where Bello was declared winner. They said such moves were unfair and could create tension within the party.
According to them, the election followed party rules and produced a clear winner, and any attempt to reverse it would damage trust in the party’s internal process.
They insisted that the will of APC members in Taraba North should be respected and warned that changing the result would go against democratic principles and party guidelines.
The group also asked INEC to stand by its monitoring report and ensure that the process is not distorted. They urged the APC national leadership to resist pressure from any side and confirm the declared result.
They further called on the Taraba State Government to stay neutral and avoid interference in the matter, saying fairness is needed to maintain peace within the party.
The stakeholders added that party members would not accept any action that removes the choice made during the primary election and said they would use lawful means to defend the outcome if necessary.
They urged all relevant authorities to act quickly to protect the credibility of the party’s selection process ahead of the general elections.
