The Bayelsa State chapter of the Nigeria Democratic Congress has said it remains committed to its goal of taking control of the state government in the 2027 elections, insisting that no form of political pressure or financial incentive would derail its plans.
Speaking in Yenagoa, the state chairman of the party, Dauprebo Ikuromo, called on Governor Douye Diri’s administration to focus on governance and development programmes that would improve the lives of residents. He urged the government to place greater attention on economic growth and projects that directly benefit the people.
The party also advised the state government to channel resources toward addressing pressing development needs rather than engaging in activities aimed at creating divisions within opposition parties. According to the NDC, issues such as unfinished or non-functional public projects deserve urgent attention.
Ikuromo dismissed concerns about internal disagreements within the party, stating that the NDC has already established a system to address complaints and resolve disputes among members. He said the mechanism is being overseen by former Bayelsa State Governor and Senator, Henry Seriake Dickson.
The party chairman explained that the National Executive Council of the NDC would release the names of candidates for various elective positions in line with the timetable approved by the Independent National Electoral Commission.
He also praised the role played by Dickson during the party’s primary elections, describing the process as transparent and fair. According to him, the exercise provided equal opportunities for aspirants across the country and strengthened confidence within the party.
The NDC further commended efforts aimed at increasing the participation of young people and women in the party’s affairs. The leadership said such policies would help build a broader and more inclusive political movement capable of attracting support from different segments of society.
The party called on its members and supporters across Bayelsa State to remain united and focused as preparations for future elections continue. It maintained that its objective remains the same: to secure victory at the polls and take over the administration of the state in 2027.
The latest statement comes as political activities gradually gather momentum ahead of the next election cycle, with parties already positioning themselves for future contests across the country.
