The Delta State Government has dismissed reports circulating online that former Governor Emmanuel Uduaghan is dead, describing the claim as false and without any basis.
The clarification came on Wednesday after social media posts alleging the death of the former governor gained attention and triggered reactions from members of the public.
Reacting to the reports, the Senior Special Assistant on Media to Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Ossai Success, said immediate efforts were made to verify the information after several people sought confirmation.
According to him, he contacted members of Uduaghan’s family directly to ascertain the true situation. Following the inquiry, the family confirmed that the former governor was alive and in good condition.
Ossai disclosed that he spoke with Uduaghan’s daughter, Orode Uduaghan, who assured him that the reports making the rounds online were completely false.
The governor’s aide said the family was aware of the rumours and confirmed that there was no truth in the claims. He therefore urged residents and members of the public to disregard the report.
He also expressed concern over the growing trend of sharing unverified information on social media, especially stories involving the health or death of public figures.
According to him, false reports of this nature can create panic, emotional distress and unnecessary anxiety for family members, friends and supporters.
Ossai stated that spreading inaccurate information about a person’s death is irresponsible and can cause avoidable pain to loved ones who may suddenly be confronted with disturbing claims that have no factual basis.
He called on social media users and content creators to always verify information before sharing it with others, stressing that accuracy should remain a priority when reporting sensitive matters.
The government aide further appealed to the public to act responsibly online and avoid contributing to the spread of rumours that could mislead people and create confusion.
He maintained that Uduaghan remains alive and healthy, adding that there was no reason for the public to believe the false reports circulating on various platforms.
The state government reiterated its appeal for caution in handling information online and urged residents to rely on credible sources for news concerning public officials and other important matters.
