President Bola Tinubu on Friday said his administration is improving access to economic opportunities in the Federal Capital Territory through continued investment in road infrastructure as he commissioned Collector Roads 01 and 02 in Mabushi District, Abuja.
The roads, inaugurated on his behalf by Vice President Kashim Shettima, connect the Mabushi Bus Terminal to Ahmadu Bello Way and are expected to improve movement, reduce travel time and support economic activities across the city.
Speaking during the inauguration, the President said the newly completed roads represent more than transport projects, describing them as part of the government’s plan to make Abuja more accessible and attractive for residents, businesses and investors. He noted that people living and working around the area had faced traffic congestion, long diversions and delays for years, affecting productivity and daily life.
Tinubu said the new road network would improve connectivity within Mabushi and other parts of the Federal Capital Territory. According to him, better road infrastructure would encourage business activities, improve security, make transportation easier and create an environment where economic growth can thrive. He added that improved mobility remains an important part of the Renewed Hope Agenda.
The President described roads as essential to national development because they support trade, connect communities and make it easier for people to carry out their daily activities. He also appreciated residents for their patience throughout the construction period despite the inconveniences caused by diversions and construction work. He appealed to the public to protect the newly completed infrastructure and ensure it is properly maintained.
Tinubu also commended the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, for the pace of development taking place across Abuja. He said the visible transformation in both the city centre and surrounding communities reflects the minister’s commitment to delivering projects. According to the President, the administration had tasked Wike with improving the capital city, and the results are becoming visible through completed roads and other ongoing projects.
He reaffirmed his government’s commitment to developing every part of the Federal Capital Territory, stating that communities across both urban and satellite areas would continue to benefit from infrastructure projects aimed at improving living conditions and expanding economic opportunities.
Earlier at the event, Wike credited the progress recorded in the FCT to President Tinubu’s consistent support and leadership. He said the President had directed that development should not be limited to the city centre but should extend to every district across Abuja. He explained that the inauguration formed part of the ongoing 31-day commissioning of projects organised to mark the administration’s third anniversary.
The minister stated that road construction remains one of the most important drivers of development because it attracts investors, increases property values, creates jobs and encourages economic activities. He noted that the completion of the Mabushi roads had already encouraged rapid real estate development within the district, with more investors showing interest in the area because of improved infrastructure.
Wike also thanked the President for providing the resources required to execute projects across the Federal Capital Territory. He said the administration had been able to maintain a steady pace of development because requests for funding received timely approval from the Presidency. He assured residents that work would continue across both the city centre and satellite towns.
Also speaking during the ceremony, the Minister of State for the Federal Capital Territory, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, said the administration’s infrastructure programme was changing the appearance of Abuja.
She commended both President Tinubu and Wike for their commitment to development and appealed to residents to protect public facilities while supporting efforts aimed at building a modern and inclusive capital city.
