The All Progressives Congress (APC) in Esa-Oke, Obokun Local Government Area of Osun State has denied claims that it or the Director-General of its campaign council for the August 15 governorship election, Wole Oke, had any connection with the killing of an Accord Party member, Ajayi Rogba. The party made its position known on Friday during a press conference in Esa-Oke, insisting that there was no evidence to support the allegations.
Ajayi, an indigene of the community, was reportedly killed on Tuesday night by suspected thugs. During a condolence visit to his family on Wednesday, Governor Ademola Adeleke reportedly suggested that the attack was carried out by individuals loyal to the APC. The governor also criticised Wole Oke and urged the police to carry out a proper investigation and ensure those responsible face justice.
Responding to the allegations, APC members in the community, through Prof. Siji Olamiju, said it was wrong to turn the incident into a political issue before security agencies completed their investigations. He said linking the killing to the APC without proof was unfair to the deceased’s family and could interfere with the search for justice.
Olamiju maintained that justice could only come through a thorough and independent investigation by the Nigeria Police Force and other relevant security agencies. He insisted that neither Wole Oke nor the APC had any connection to the incident and described attempts to blame the party as politically driven.
He also appealed to Governor Adeleke and other public officials to avoid making statements that could influence ongoing investigations. According to him, security agencies should be allowed to carry out their duties without pressure or interference.
The APC chieftain further called for a transparent and unbiased investigation into the killing, saying anyone found responsible should face the law, regardless of political affiliation or social status.
He added that the party remained committed to justice, accountability and the rule of law while urging political actors to allow facts and due process to determine the outcome of the case rather than relying on accusations or speculation.
