The Nigeria Democratic Coalition (NDC) has accused the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) of failing to provide the access code needed to upload the names of its candidates to the commission’s nomination portal as it prepares to challenge a court ruling ordering its deregistration.
The party made the allegation after a Federal High Court directed INEC to deregister the NDC. According to the party, the lack of the required access code prevented it from completing the nomination process for its candidates before the court’s decision.
Speaking on the matter, the party’s National Spokesman, Osa Director, said officials of the electoral commission did not issue the access credentials when the party approached them. He explained that the commission only informed the party that it would respond later, leaving the process incomplete.
Director maintained that the party should not be blamed for failing to upload the names of its candidates. He said the delay resulted from INEC’s failure to provide the access code needed to gain entry into the online nomination platform.
He disclosed that the NDC plans to return to the electoral commission to renew its request for the access code. At the same time, the party is preparing legal action to stop the implementation of the court judgment that ordered its deregistration.
According to him, the party expects to file an application seeking a stay of execution of the judgment while pursuing its case in court. The NDC said it remains determined to continue the legal process and protect its participation in the country’s political activities despite the latest setback.
