2027: Anyanwu declares ambition to succeed Uzodimma

Samuel Anyanwu, the National Secretary of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has declared his intention to contest the 2027 Imo State governorship election, saying he believes it is now his turn to lead the state after the administrations of Ikedi Ohakim, Emeka Ihedioha and Hope Uzodimma.

Anyanwu made the declaration in Owerri, the Imo State capital, during the inauguration of a support group known as the Polling Unit Movement for Sam Daddy. Addressing members of the group, he said he had remained committed to the PDP over the years and believed fairness supported his ambition to become the party’s next governor.

He recalled that he, Hope Uzodimma, Ikedi Ohakim and Emeka Ihedioha were all members of the old PDP in Imo State before political changes took place. According to him, the other three have all governed the state, while he has continued to wait for his own opportunity.

The PDP chieftain admitted that political leadership is often won through determination and hard work. He said he remains focused on his ambition and is prepared for the political contest ahead of the governorship election.

Anyanwu also expressed confidence in the future of the PDP, saying the party is becoming more united and continues to attract new members across the state. He maintained that many residents still see the PDP as the party they trust and assured supporters that it would continue working to meet their expectations.

He urged members of the newly inaugurated support group to intensify grassroots mobilisation by reaching communities across the state and encouraging more people to support the party ahead of the polls.

Speaking on the election process, Anyanwu said the PDP would take steps to protect its votes by deploying party agents to monitor activities at polling units. He stated that the party was prepared for the challenges that usually accompany elections and would remain vigilant throughout the voting and collation process.

He also encouraged the various support groups working for his ambition, including the Divine Mandate and the Mass Movement for Sam Daddy, to cooperate closely and expand their mobilisation efforts to ensure wider participation by Imo residents as preparations for the 2027 election gather momentum.
