The Abia State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has dismissed reports suggesting it is planning to enter into an alliance with any political party ahead of the 2027 general elections. The party made its position known on Thursday at its state secretariat in Umuahia, where its chairman, Abraham Amah, said the PDP remained united and ready to contest the elections on its own.
Amah said the party had no agreement with any political group in Abia or at the national level. He maintained that anyone making statements about a proposed alliance was expressing a personal opinion and not speaking on behalf of the PDP.
According to him, the party has completed the process of submitting the names of its candidates for various elective positions to the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC). He said this showed that the PDP was fully prepared for the 2027 elections without depending on any other political platform or allowing another party to use its structure.
The state chairman also dismissed claims of division within the Abia PDP. He said the successful upload of the party’s candidates on the INEC portal confirmed that the leadership under him remained the recognised structure of the party in the state.
He added that the party had already begun efforts to reconcile aspirants who were dissatisfied with the outcome of its primary elections, expressing confidence that the disagreements would be resolved before the campaigns gather momentum.
During the same event, the PDP governorship candidate in Abia State, Kelechi Anosike, unveiled part of his plans for workers if elected governor in 2027. He promised to introduce a minimum wage of ₦90,000 for civil servants across the state.
Anosike also criticised the current salary structure under the Abia State Government. He alleged that the administration was not implementing the ₦70,000 minimum wage for all categories of workers and said his government would adopt a different approach that would improve workers’ welfare if he wins the governorship election.
