President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Friday said he instructed the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, to complete road and engineering infrastructure leading to the 3,112-unit Renewed Hope City in Karsana before anyone moved into the estate.
The President made this known in Abuja during the commissioning of the 10.5-kilometre access roads serving the Renewed Hope Cities and Estates in Karsana West District.
Represented by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, Tinubu said the decision was made when he performed the groundbreaking ceremony for the housing project. According to him, building houses without proper roads and basic infrastructure would not achieve the goal of providing decent homes for Nigerians.
He explained that the directive was given because workers, families and investors needed reliable access to the estate before it could become fully functional. Tinubu said Wike acted quickly on the assignment, leading to the completion of the road network that now connects the housing estate to major routes in the Federal Capital Territory.
The President noted that the newly completed roads, including Arterial Roads N11, N16 and N40 as well as Special Important Local Street 03, now link Karsana West District to the Outer Northern Expressway. He said the project would make thousands of affordable housing units easier to reach while improving security and daily movement within the area.
Tinubu said his administration remained committed to ending the practice of abandoned government projects in the Federal Capital Territory. He added that completed infrastructure would continue to replace unfinished contracts as part of the government’s development plans.
The President also praised Wike for overseeing infrastructure projects across Abuja, saying the minister had maintained a focus on delivering completed projects instead of leaving them unfinished. He also commended Minister of State for the FCT, Dr. Mariya Mahmoud, engineers and officials of the FCT Administration for ensuring the roads were completed according to schedule.
Tinubu equally praised Lubrik Construction Company, which handled the project after receiving the contract in February 2025. He assured contractors that the Federal Government would continue to pay promptly for projects completed on time and according to approved standards.
Speaking at the event, Wike recalled that the Karsana district had no access road when Tinubu launched the housing project in 2024. He said many developers were worried that their investments would lose value because people could not easily reach the area.
According to the minister, he assured the developers that the government would construct the roads, a promise that has now been fulfilled. He said the successful delivery of the project was made possible because the Federal Government released funds without delay while the contractor completed the work within the agreed timeline.
Wike also announced that the Federal Capital Territory Administration would officially begin construction of the Kaba-Kagini-Zaudna road on July 8 following complaints by residents about the poor condition of the route.
In her remarks, Minister of State for the FCT, Mariya Mahmoud, said the newly completed roads would improve transportation, increase business activities and support access to affordable housing in the territory. She also appealed to residents and other stakeholders to protect public infrastructure so it can continue serving communities for many years.
