The Labour Party has announced Hajja Bintu Konto as its vice presidential candidate for the 2027 general election. The party confirmed on Saturday that Konto will contest alongside its presidential candidate, Dr. Chibuzo Okereke, as they prepare for the next presidential race.
The announcement was contained in a statement issued by the party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Eluma Asogwa. According to the party, the decision followed consultations with key stakeholders across its structure before the final choice was made.
The party said the selection of Konto reflects its plan to present a leadership team it believes has the experience, character and ability to serve the country. It also stated that the ticket was formed with the aim of promoting unity, good leadership and effective public service.
Konto has built her career in the health sector as a nurse, midwife, health educator and public health specialist. She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health and has also worked as a lecturer in community health, contributing to the training of healthcare professionals.
Beyond her academic and professional background, she currently serves as a member of the Country Coordinating Mechanism of the Global Fund in Nigeria. She is also the National Treasurer of the Civil Society for Malaria Control, Immunization and Nutrition (ACOMIN) and belongs to several other professional organisations.
With the announcement, the Labour Party has completed its presidential ticket for the 2027 election, positioning Okereke and Konto to campaign together as the party seeks support from voters across the country.
