The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, said on Friday that the infrastructure projects carried out under President Bola Tinubu’s administration in Abuja have become the administration’s strongest response to political opponents.
He made the remarks during the inauguration of the reconstructed Arab/Gbazango Road in Kubwa, Bwari Area Council, as the Federal Capital Territory Administration concluded its project commissioning programme.
According to Wike, the level of development recorded across the FCT has given residents visible proof of the government’s work. He said communities benefiting from the completed projects can now compare the current administration’s performance with those of previous governments. He maintained that the completed roads and other infrastructure have changed the lives of residents and made it easier for people to judge government performance through completed projects.
The minister said the road project in Kubwa is one of many completed since President Tinubu assumed office. He noted that residents of the area had lived with poor road conditions for years, making transportation and business activities difficult. He added that the reconstruction of the road has improved movement within the community and created better conditions for traders and other businesses.
Wike also said the FCT Administration has completed more than 53 projects since Tinubu became president. He described the recently concluded commissioning exercise, which lasted from June 9 to July 17, as one of the longest continuous project inauguration programmes by any administration in the country. He said the programme ended successfully without any major incident and thanked everyone involved in the exercise.
He explained that the administration would take a short break before beginning another round of project commissioning later in the year. According to him, at least 10 more projects are expected to be completed and inaugurated before the end of the year as work continues across the territory.
The minister said development is achieved through commitment to meeting the needs of the people. He added that the growing number of completed projects reflects the administration’s effort to improve infrastructure and public services across Abuja.
During the event, community leaders appealed for improved water supply in the area. In response, Wike directed the Executive Secretary of the Federal Capital Development Authority to take immediate steps to address the problem and ensure residents have access to water.
The inauguration of the Arab/Gbazango Road marked the final project commissioned under the FCT Administration’s anniversary programme, which included the completion and flag-off of road, transport, housing and other public infrastructure projects across the Federal Capital Territory under the Renewed Hope Agenda.
