Nigeria Democratic Congress presidential candidate, Peter Obi, on Saturday paid a condolence visit to former Rivers State Governor and African Democratic Congress vice-presidential candidate, Rotimi Amaechi, following the death of his mother, Mary Oduah. Obi visited Amaechi and his wife, Dame Judith Amaechi, to sympathise with the family during their period of mourning.
The visit came two days after the passing of Mrs. Oduah, who died on Thursday at the age of 89. Obi’s appearance at the family home was seen as a gesture of support despite the political differences between both men, reflecting a moment of compassion beyond party lines.
According to a statement issued by Amaechi’s media office, the late Mrs. Oduah was widely admired for her dedication to her family, her community and the Christian faith. The statement described her as a woman who brought her family together through love, peace and unity throughout her lifetime.
It also stated that she played active roles as a community women leader and a respected Christian figure who remained devoted to her faith. Her commitment to serving others earned her respect from people within and outside her community.
The media office added that Mrs. Oduah would be remembered for her kindness, warm personality and willingness to support people whenever the need arose. It noted that her life left lasting memories among family members, friends and those who came in contact with her.
A video of Obi’s visit was also shared, showing him offering condolences to Amaechi and members of the bereaved family as they continue to receive sympathisers following the loss of the family matriarch.
