The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Oyo State for the 2027 election, Chief Adegboyega Adegoke, has accused the Oyo State Government of removing one of his campaign billboards in Ibadan. The allegation was made on Saturday through a statement released by his media office.
According to the statement, the billboard, located at the Idi-Ape Junction in Ibadan, was taken down by the state government. Adegoke claimed that the display featured his photograph alongside that of the ADC presidential candidate, Atiku Abubakar.
He further alleged that after the billboard was removed, it was replaced with another banner displaying the photographs of Governor Seyi Makinde, the presidential candidate of the Allied Peoples Movement (APM), and the party’s governorship candidate in Oyo State, Bimbo Adekambi.
Adegoke described the action as unlawful and said it was an attempt to frustrate his campaign activities ahead of the 2027 general election. He maintained that removing campaign materials belonging to political opponents was not in line with democratic principles.
The ADC governorship candidate also claimed that the action reflected concerns over the growing support for both his governorship ambition and the party’s presidential candidate in the state. He insisted that taking down campaign materials would not reduce the acceptance they were receiving from residents across Oyo State.
He called on political leaders in the state to allow campaigns to be conducted peacefully and fairly, urging all parties to respect democratic values instead of engaging in actions that could create unnecessary political tension.
Adegoke expressed confidence that the ADC would continue its campaign across the state despite the incident, saying the party remained focused on presenting its programmes to the electorate ahead of the 2027 elections.
