Vice President Kashim Shettima has departed Abuja for Freetown, Sierra Leone, to represent President Bola Tinubu at the 69th Ordinary Session of the Authority of Heads of State and Government of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS).
The regional meeting is taking place on Sunday at the Julius Maada Bio International Conference Centre, bringing together leaders from across West Africa to discuss issues affecting the region.
The summit is expected to provide an opportunity for heads of state, ministers, senior government officials and representatives of regional institutions to review matters relating to peace, security, democracy and economic cooperation.
Participants are also expected to consider policy decisions and agree on measures aimed at strengthening collaboration among ECOWAS member states.
Discussions during the meeting will also cover trade, regional integration and sustainable development, as leaders seek ways to improve economic growth and tackle common challenges facing countries within the bloc. The gathering is expected to produce decisions that will guide ECOWAS activities in the coming months.
Shettima is attending the meeting on behalf of President Tinubu and will take part in the summit’s official engagements alongside other leaders from the region.
His participation reflects Nigeria’s continued role in discussions on regional peace, economic development and cooperation among ECOWAS member states.
The vice president is expected to return to Abuja after completing his official duties at the summit in Sierra Leone.
