The Labour Party has started uploading the details of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates for the 2027 general elections after receiving the required access code from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).
The party disclosed this on Monday in Abuja, saying the process began on Saturday and is moving ahead without major challenges.
The party’s National Publicity Secretary, Ken Asogwa, said the access code issued by INEC allowed the party to submit the details of its candidates through the commission’s nomination portal. He added that a good number of candidates had already been uploaded as of Monday, while work was continuing to complete the exercise before the deadline set by the electoral body.
Although the party confirmed that the upload was ongoing, it did not reveal the names of the candidates or the states whose details had already been submitted.
Asogwa explained that the technical issues experienced by many political parties during the submission of presidential and National Assembly candidates were not limited to the Labour Party. He said the problems were mainly caused by difficulties in matching information provided by political parties with records already available on INEC’s portal.
According to him, several parties encountered similar challenges during the earlier stage of the nomination process before the issues were addressed.
The Labour Party said it is working to meet all the requirements laid down by INEC and intends to complete the submission of its governorship and State House of Assembly candidates within the commission’s approved timetable.
INEC had earlier released the schedule for the submission of candidates’ details ahead of the 2027 general elections, requiring political parties to complete the process within the specified period. The Labour Party expressed confidence that it would meet the deadline as preparations continue across the states.
