The Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) has disowned Okey Ezeala, stating that he is not the party’s Deputy National Publicity Secretary or a member of its leadership.
The party made the announcement on Monday through a statement issued by its National Publicity Secretary, Osa Director Esq., while warning members and the public against dealing with him as a representative of the party.
According to the NDC, Ezeala has never been elected or appointed into the position he allegedly claims to occupy. The party said he is not a member of either its National Executive Committee (NEC) or the National Working Committee (NWC) and has no authority to act or speak on its behalf.
The party explained that it decided to issue the disclaimer after receiving several complaints alleging that Ezeala had been presenting himself as a national officer of the NDC. It said he had also been claiming membership of the National Working Committee despite having no official role within the party.
The NDC further alleged that Ezeala collected money from some individuals after promising to secure party tickets and political appointments for them. It also accused him of organising what it described as an illegal party congress in Abia State, an exercise the party said resulted in the creation of an unauthorised parallel executive.
The party maintained that Ezeala has never occupied any leadership position at the national, state or local government levels. It insisted that he has no mandate to conduct party business, issue statements or represent the NDC in any capacity.
The NDC advised members of the public to avoid any transaction with Ezeala in the name of the party, warning that anyone dealing with him does so without the party’s approval. It also urged individuals who believe they may have been affected by his alleged activities to report the matter to the office of the party’s National Secretary for appropriate action.
