The Imole Campaign Council, which is coordinating Governor Ademola Adeleke’s re-election bid, has urged the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) to address issues observed during recent elections before the Osun governorship poll.
The Director-General of the Imole Campaign Council, Lere Oyewumi, said the group observed several problems during recent off-cycle and by-elections in different states. According to him, there were reports that suspected non-resident voters received Permanent Voter Cards shortly before election day in some states.
He also raised concerns over the alleged shortage of ballot papers and other election materials during previous polls. The campaign council claimed that reports of pre-thumbprinted ballot papers surfaced during the 2026 Ekiti governorship election, while technical issues involving the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System (BVAS) affected voting in Ekiti State and the Federal Capital Territory Area Council elections.
Oyewumi further alleged that some political parties that did not participate in certain elections were still listed on ballot papers and result sheets. He said such issues should be properly addressed to avoid similar situations in Osun.
The campaign council also expressed concern over reports that some APC leaders allegedly spoke about the possibility of preloading BVAS machines before the Osun governorship election. It said such claims, if true, could threaten the credibility of the electronic accreditation process.
The council equally urged INEC to ensure that the ongoing distribution of Permanent Voter Cards remains transparent and accessible to eligible voters. It warned against any attempt to deny registered voters access to their PVCs or allow proxy collection.
According to the campaign council, its observations were not intended to discredit INEC but to encourage improvements before the governorship election.
It maintained that the Osun poll offers another opportunity for Nigeria’s electoral system to deliver a peaceful, transparent and credible election that reflects the choice of the people.
