The family of former Kaduna State Governor, Nasir El-Rufai, has dismissed a letter circulating on social media that claims to have been written by the African Democratic Congress, ADC, chieftain. The family made this known on Thursday, saying the document is fake and did not come from the former governor.
In a statement issued by El-Rufai’s son, Mohammed Bello El-Rufai, on behalf of the family, the document, titled Urgent Message and dated July 14, 2026, was described as false. According to the statement, the letter, which was allegedly addressed to the National Chairman and National Secretary of the ADC, was not written or signed by El-Rufai.
The family explained that both the content and handwriting in the letter were completely different from that of the former Kaduna governor. It urged members of the public to ignore the document and avoid spreading false information capable of creating confusion.
The statement also said those behind the letter were attempting to mislead the public and stir division through false claims. It maintained that El-Rufai had no connection with the document and called on Nigerians to disregard it entirely.
The letter circulating online claimed there were problems surrounding the nomination of Isah Ashiru as the ADC governorship candidate in Kaduna State. It alleged that Ashiru failed to complete the party’s online membership registration before the April 30, 2026 deadline, which it described as a constitutional requirement.
The document further called on the national and state leadership of the ADC to review the nomination process and intervene in the matter.
However, El-Rufai’s family insisted that the document was fabricated and did not reflect the views or position of the former minister. It restated that the letter was fake and advised the public not to treat it as authentic.
