The All Progressives Congress, APC, has denied claims that it played any role in the political moves made by former Anambra State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, presidential candidate, Peter Obi.
The party made the clarification on Tuesday during an interview on Channels Television, where its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, dismissed allegations that the ruling party was behind the internal crises affecting opposition parties. He said the APC had no hand in Obi’s departure from the Peoples Democratic Party, Labour Party or any other political platform.
According to Yilwatda, Peter Obi’s movement across different political parties began long before the APC came to power at the federal level. He said it was wrong to accuse the ruling party of forcing the former governor to leave one party after another, insisting that Obi’s political decisions were entirely his own.
The APC chairman also rejected claims that the party was responsible for the challenges facing opposition parties across the country. He maintained that the internal disputes and defections recorded by those parties were not caused by the APC, adding that every political party was responsible for managing its own affairs.
Speaking on recent defections from the APC, Yilwatda argued that those leaving the party were mostly driven by personal political ambitions, particularly the search for election tickets, rather than disagreements over the party’s policies or direction.
He added that the APC remains united and continues to attract support across the country. Yilwatda said the party has fulfilled major promises made since he became national chairman and is focused on strengthening its internal structure while preparing for future elections.
