The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has announced that it will begin the public display of the credentials and personal details of candidates contesting the 2027 presidential, Senate and House of Representatives elections in Lagos State from Saturday, August 1, 2026.
The exercise will take place at the commission’s state office in Sabo-Yaba and its Local Government Area offices across the constituencies where the candidates are seeking election.
The announcement was made on Friday in a statement issued by the Head of Voter Education and Publicity in Lagos State, Mrs Esther Emeh. She explained that the exercise is being conducted in line with the Electoral Act to allow members of the public and interested stakeholders to inspect the documents submitted by candidates nominated by political parties.
According to the commission, the documents to be displayed are contained in Form EC9, which includes each candidate’s personal information, academic and other credentials, as well as sworn affidavits submitted during the nomination process.
INEC encouraged registered political parties, candidates, election observers and members of the public to take part in the inspection during the display period. The commission said the process is meant to promote openness and give interested persons the opportunity to verify the information submitted by candidates.
The electoral body also explained that anyone who believes a candidate provided false information or submitted forged documents has the legal right to challenge the nomination in court, as provided under the Electoral Act.
INEC said the display of the documents forms part of its preparations for the 2027 general elections and reaffirmed its commitment to conducting an open, free and credible electoral process.
It added that the commission would continue to follow the provisions of the law in handling all stages of the election timetable to ensure fairness for political parties, candidates and voters.
