The presidential candidate of the Nigerian Democratic Congress (NDC), Peter Obi, his running mate, Rabiu Kwankwaso, and the party’s national leader, Senator Seriake Dickson, met in Abuja as efforts continue to address the leadership crisis affecting the OK Movement ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The meeting took place at Dickson’s residence in the Federal Capital Territory on Thursday, coming at a time when concerns have grown over divisions within the coalition, which was created by members of the Kwankwassiyya and Obidient movements to support the Obi-Kwankwaso ticket.
The crisis has led to the emergence of rival factions within the movement, creating uncertainty among supporters and party members as preparations for the next general election gather pace.
After the meeting, Dickson disclosed through his official Facebook page that discussions centred on the state of the party and preparations for the campaign period expected to begin later this month. He also urged members, supporters and party stakeholders to remain united and work together as the party moves closer to the election season.
The gathering is seen as part of ongoing efforts by the NDC leadership to strengthen internal unity and prevent the disagreement within the support groups from affecting the party’s campaign plans.
The OK Movement was formed as a joint platform bringing together supporters of Peter Obi and Rabiu Kwankwaso. However, internal disagreements in recent weeks have created leadership disputes that resulted in the formation of different factions.
With political activities expected to increase in the coming weeks, party leaders appear focused on resolving internal issues and presenting a united front ahead of the official start of campaigns for the 2027 general elections.
