The Lagos State Chairman of Accord Party, Dele Oladeji, has denied reports that the party endorsed President Bola Tinubu for a second term in the 2027 presidential election.
Oladeji, who also serves as Secretary of the Forum of Accord Party Chairmen in Southern Nigeria, made the clarification on Sunday while reacting to a claim attributed to Christopher Imumolen, a factional presidential candidate of the party.
He said Accord had not held any National Executive Committee meeting where members discussed or approved support for Tinubu’s re-election bid.
Oladeji maintained that the party remains committed to participating fully in the 2027 general elections and will field candidates for various elective positions, including the presidency.
He described Imumolen’s reported position as his personal view and said it did not represent the official position of Accord.
The Lagos chairman also questioned Imumolen’s current membership of the party, claiming that his name was not contained in Accord’s present membership register. He said the register on which Imumolen was previously listed had been replaced following the introduction of a new register in 2023.
Oladeji challenged Imumolen to provide evidence of his current membership and participation in recognised party meetings and activities.
He further stated that Accord would not support the presidential candidate of another political party while preparing to contest the 2027 election on its own platform.
According to him, any decision concerning the party’s political direction must come through its recognised organs and constitutional processes.
Oladeji urged Accord members and supporters to disregard reports suggesting that the party had reached an agreement to support Tinubu’s re-election.
He said the party would remain independent and continue preparations to contest the 2027 elections at the presidential, governorship, senatorial, House of Representatives and state assembly levels.
